cluster bombs [Jan. 5th, 2009|06:25 pm]

I hate to harp on this, but take a look at this photo of Israeli cluster bombs landing on Gaza:

Now let me explain what you are seeing here. These are smoke trails from two cluster bomb that have just landed. They came in from the right hand side, then they broke apart (the big puffs of smoke) into hundreds of 'bomblets' that are raining down on the target. The basic idea here is that you want to kill everything within a city block or so with one bomb, sorta like a shotgun. In the photo you can see how the bombs aren't just blowing up one house, but a whole bunch of houses. They are also good for setting large fires.

But see, here's the thing Israel, I can get why you are interested in trying to kill some terrorist dude in a house, but you are blowing up the entire city block with those cluster bombs. It is pretty much impossible to fire one of those things off in a populated area without killing at least some innocent bystanders. That's kinda 'evil'. Even if the terrorist dude is really mean, you don't have the right to blow up his neighbors. Hell, I've never even met my neighbors, and so I'd be really annoyed if someone blew up my house trying to kill them. And there's a lot of kids in those houses Israel. There are other photos I'm not including here that show what happens when those bomblets of yours hit kids. It's kinda gross. So, don't be a dick Israel, stop with the cluster bombs.

Just to let you know, 111 countries have signed a treaty banning the use of cluster bombs, since they are pretty much guaranteed to lead to civilian casualties, which makes them a violation of the Geneva Convention. Of course the US chose not to sign the treaty because George Bush is a warmongering prick.

I've heard they are using automatic dialing/message machines to call the areas they are planning to bomb and warn the residents to get out. But I guess if someone was my mortal enemy I wouldn't believe anything they told me, either...
