I've decided that the phone messages people leave me these days are boring. They're all just, "call me back" or "meet me at so and so place" or just "blah blah blah." So I've changed my outgoing phone message from the standard "I'm not able to come to the phone right now," to challenging my caller to answer some obscure opinion question about a work of literature. For example, right now if you call me you'll be asked whether you find Candide's insistence that we live in 'the best of all possible worlds' to be a pessimistic statement about the nature of the universe or an optimistic one. So these days, instead of just getting a message saying "call me back" I get a message saying "...um....I don't know what you are talking about, but call me back." Not much better I guess, but its still a work in progress. |
