Something I was thinking today; there are like 7 billion people around right now. If you were to live a year of each of their lives, it would take you 7 billion years, which is almost the age of the entire universe. I find it interesting to think about how much 'human experience' that is being generated every day. It makes me kinda sad to know that I can only ever experience the world from my own perspective.
Sometimes I'll get emails from people who say that one of the little comic stories I put on the internet made them cry. I find that fascinating. Each story is only two sentences long, and has at most 100 or so letters. It's almost unbelievable that someone like me could write those 100 letters down, send them out into the world, and somewhere someone else stumbles upon them and just seeing those 100 squiggles with their eyes generates such a powerful emotional reaction in their brain. It's like language is an emotional bomb. It's especially fascinating that the form is so short, it's like just pure emotion. I wonder what the fewest number of letters I could use and still cause a reaction in people? |
