The torture apologists like to claim that the 'enhanced interrogation techniques' were necessary because they were desperate to get information to stop the hypothetical 'ticking time bomb' and not out of any sadistic desire to hurt people. But even if there was a 'ticking time bomb' (and there wasn't), the new torture memos they released pretty much blow that excuse out of the water. Turns out they waterboarded Khalid Sheik Mohammed 183 times! Now c'mon seriously, is it believable that after waterboarding the guy 180 times they still figured "he hasn't talked yet, but maybe after one more time..."? It's pretty clear that he told them everything he was going to tell them by that point. They were just torturing him because they were sadistic bastards. Or maybe they were getting some strange sexual excitement for it. But pretty clearly after that much punishment, they weren't waterboarding him to get more information. God those people make me sick.
